Maloof Inspired Rocker

In December 2022, I visited the workshop of master woodworker Sam Maloof. During the tour, I had the opportunity to view a number of original Maloof pieces and gain insight into the design language and craftsmanship that defined his legacy. At that time, I was seeking a project that would significantly challenge my abilities and expand my skills as a woodworker. I ultimately committed to recreating Maloof’s iconic rocking chair.

My junior year of high school was structured around the completion of this project. The build pushed me well beyond my perceived limits and fundamentally reshaped my approach to woodworking. In the end, it became both a technical milestone and a lasting reminder of what can be achieved through dedication, discipline, and a willingness to push beyond comfort.
